Statistics: Russia’s deflation at 0.1% Jul 26–Mon
MOSCOW, Aug 3 (PRIME) – Russian consumer prices fell 0.1% from July 26 through Monday, the country’s first deflation in five years, after three weeks of 0.1% inflation, while the price rise since January 1 amounted to 4%, the Federal State Statistics Service said Wednesday.
The service attributed deflation to fruit and vegetables, which became 3% cheaper on average in the reporting week, including tomatoes, which became 8.5% cheaper, cucumbers 7.4% cheaper, cabbage 4.4%, potatoes 3.9%, and carrots 3.2%.
Prices for lamb meat, sausages, fish, flour, and millet also fell 0.1%.
But prices for sugar went up by 1%, for buckwheat by 0.6%, for butter by 0.3, for poultry and sour cream by 0.2%.
Gasoline prices grew 0.1% and diesel prices decreased 0.1%.
